I read your comments about Sceletium and know that's wrong to compare the alkaloid to cocaine, let alone your comments about brain damage.
Please don't write such inacurracies before making sure of your facts. Sceletium is a safe and effective natural cure for anxiety, stress, and depression. It does not cause brain damage.

<em>Richard: we know that sceletium is used as an anti-depressum and that it really works; provided it's used in correct doses. Some general practitioners in South Africa even make their own anti-depressum pills out of it and with relatively low doses of the 'working' alkaloids'. The point however is that quite a few users of this plant do not know how to use it. They keep on chewing the fermented plants and (yes!!!) once addicted .... etc. etc. That's already, on a small scale, happening here in South Africa. According to official statistics (see these as an indicator): around 27% of the South African population is alcoholic and 6 to 8% addicted to drugs!!! That is more than two times the global average. In wine producing areas more than 50% of the people are born with a fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). Not the crime is one of the main problems in South Africa but drug- and alcohol addiction that causes the majority of criminal verdicts! And addiction is, indeed, often related to poverty. Etc. etc.
It's a complicated story and as long as the government does not realise this (alcohol-export is economical important) not much will change unfortunately.

Dear James,

The Idria collumnaris (Boojum) originates from the North East of Baja Californa which is a winter rainfall area.
Transplanting a large boojum is seldom succesfull. Best is to grow them from seed (see one of comments above) or buy small plants. When you transplant these they will have a serious draw bak during the first week. Keep the soil wet (but not soaked) and stop watering as soon as you notice recovering (growth) again.

Hope you succeed in acuiring plants and seeds. Unfortunately it is difficult (custom regulations) to export young plants from South Africa to the Americas.

I want to add a Boojum or two of moderate height (4-6 ft), but don't know where to purchase them ... any ideas? They seem to be more common in AZ and I would drive there to pick them up ...
